A New Season, A New Look

My most recent client. Ombre to all-over brunette.
As we move forward from Summer to Fall the leaves change, the styles change, and hair color changes too. Scarves come out, new boots are purchased and blondes turn into brunettes. The latter is my favorite part of Fall.

Living in Arizona, we still haven't exactly reached fall weather. But that hasn't stopped the ladies here from embracing the fall hair styles. Recently, my clients have begun to transform their hair from summer highlights to a beautiful, rich and shiny brunettes.

This isn't something that should be done at home with a box color. Why, you may ask? There can be more involved than just pouring a box of color over the top of your hair. Remember, you had highlights before. This causes the hair to be porous. Lighter blondes need a filler first to help fill in all those holes that are created when lifting out the color molecules. Once a filler has been applied, rinsed and the hair has been dried, the color may be applied. But it must be applied evenly,  something that is hard to achieve when coloring your own hair. Without an even application the color will appear splotchy and you might still see some of your highlights peeking through (which some do like, but in most cases they want to actually have dark hair all over).

You might say that box color is just the cheaper option and you cant afford salon prices. I would have to agree with you. A box is WAY cheaper, but you get what you pay for. Box color has a tendency to fade faster. In fact, in one shampoo you may not have the same color you started with....especially if you were previously blonde. The other issue many people have found is that you never know what color it will turn out. The box may say "Warm Chestnut" and you end up with "Halloween Black". Fixing a color that is too dark is not only hard on your wallet, it's incredibly hard on your hair. If you ask me, it is better to have quality work rather than a huge mess to fix, be out a lot more money and have trashed ends to boot.

So, go ahead and make an appointment today with your stylist. Why not take the plunge and turn your blonde into a fall favorite!
